Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553)
Lucas Cranach was born at Cronach in upper Franconia, Germany and learned the art of drawing from his father. He was a religious painter and his chief occupation was that of portrait-painting. He was equally successful, and often comically naïve in mythological scenes.
