John Constable was born in East Bergholt, a village on the River Stour in Suffolk, England. He became a great landscape painter.
The area of Dedham Vale in Suffolk is known as 'Constable Country'.

La Baie de Weymouth à l'approche de l'orage
H. : 0,88 m. ; L. : 1,12 m.
Cette vue d'une plage du Dorset sur la côte sud de l'Angleterre fut peinte vers 1818 - 1819 et exposée à la British Institution en 1819. Elle était alors légèrement plus petite et l'on peut voir aujourd'hui la trace des deux bandes de toile qui furent rajoutées par l'artiste en haut et à gauche. Cet agrandissement donne plus de place aux nuages et à la mer dans la composition. L'oeuvre ainsi agrandie fut gravée par le graveur David Lucas, à la demande de Constable pour former l'une des illustrations de son recueil English Ladscape Scenery. |
