|Eugene Boudin (1824-1898)
Eugene Boudin was born at Honfleur, Normandy.
He was a marine painter who painted outdoors.
In 1857 Boudin met Claude Monet who spent several months working directly with Boudin in his studio.
He exhibited at the Salons, receiving a third place medal at the Salon of 1881, and a gold medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle.
In 1892 Boudin was made a knight of the Légion d'honneur.

Boudin frequently painted landscapes along the coast of Brittany. This view of the village of Le Faou, east of Brest, was probably executed during Boudin's first visit there in 1867.
