George Caleb Bingham was Born in Virginia, Bingham's family moved to Missouri when he was eight years old.
His work depicts American life in the frontier lands along the Missouri River.
He was a professor of art at the University of Missouri.

Two men at a checkerboard, one leans over a counter and watches. The man on the left moves his black checker. The walls are covered with shelving. Predominantly shades of brown.
