Full biography. | Frédéric Bazille (1841–1870)
Frédéric Bazille was an Impressionist painter and soldier.
Born in Montpellier, Hérault, France, into a middle-class Protestant family, Bazille began studying medicine in 1862, when he met Pierre-Auguste Renoir and was drawn to the Impressionist movement. His career was cut short, when he was killed in action in Beaune-la-Rolande, Loiret during the Franco-Prussian War.
